WISH 99.7 Honored with National Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Award for Promotion of Local Pasta Event

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America has honored WISH 99.7 with the Wallace B. Dunlap Radio Award for its outstanding on-air and creative support of The Western Pennsylvania chapter’s annual “A Taste of Pittsburgh’s Pasta” event.

“Our Society honors only a handful of radio stations across the United States each year,” states LLS Campaign Director, Maureen Durkin. “WISH has done an outstanding job for The Society since it became our media partner in 2003. A Taste of Pittsburgh’s Pasta has raised over $250,000 since its inception fourteen years ago, so it’s a critical, visible event for our Western Pennsylvania chapter. WISH pre-promotes the event and morning drive anchors Ron Antill and Sara Lockard keep the crowd of several thousand entertained at the pasta luncheon. We credit much of ‘Pasta’s’ recent success to WISH’s involvement.”

Said WISH Vice President and General Manager, Tony Renda, Jr., “We’re not in it for the awards, but it’s very heartening when our community involvement is recognized. This is a team effort by all at our station.”

The award was named after Wallace Dunlap, a broadcast veteran and past chairman of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s National Board of Directors.

The 14th Annual “A Taste of Pittsburgh’s Pasta” will be held Thursday, June 22, from 11 AM-1:30 PM on the plaza at US Steel Tower, downtown Pittsburgh. A ticket entitles a diner to four selections of pasta from the restaurants of their choice, a Pepsi beverage and dessert created by the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute.

The 2006 “A Taste of Pittsburgh’s Pasta” is presented by Heinz and Winthrop Management LLP. Participating restaurants include Bahama Breeze, Bigelow Grille, Bravo Italian Kitchen, Café Euro, The Church Brew Works, Dave and Busters, Grecian Isles, Jimmy G’s, Johnny Carino’s Country Italian, La Tavola Italiana, Spaghetti Warehouse and Stone Mansion.

Contributors include Crest White Strips, Pepsi, CB Richard Ellis, Paper Products Company, Inc., Mastro Ice and Turner Dairy.
